Last season was a successful one on and off the greens. Our numerous bowling successes included Brendon Brill winning the BOP Under 8’s Singles; Lance Tasker the BOP Centre Singles in a closely contested final against John O’Shea, and Talor Duncan was a member of the BOP Under 8’s team which won the national title for the first time. Lance also teamed up with Peter Bellis to play in the National Pairs and finished runner-up.
After a quiet season property-wise in 2016-17, our last one involved a major project – that of upgrading the ditches, banks and surrounds of No.1 green. Many volunteer hours went into producing something that the club can be justly proud of.
We look forward to the new season with some confidence, not least because Dan Robb is doing such a good job of looking after our greens.
We must ensure that we provide for all of our members throughout the season. Roll ups and scheduled club fixtures apart, we host 12 summer and 6 winter open tournament days with half of these held on weekends. As always, we are indebted to the generous sponsorship given for these tournaments. Wacky Wednesdays will no doubt prove to be popular again, and these ‘bowls and dinner’ evenings are to be bolstered by the new Friday Twilight Bowls 3/5 series in October and March.
Many hands are needed to share the voluntary workload and rosters will again be drawn up to handle the likes of cleaning, kitchen duty, grounds work and assisting with functions. If fairly shared, none of the tasks will be onerous.
A very warm welcome is extended to all new members and we trust you enjoy all that our club in the scenic Tauranga Domain has to offer.
My best wishes to all members for the coming season. May your bowls often do as directed and you enjoy the fellowship of your club.
